Sunday afternoon, November 9, I saw at the Free Synagogue of Flushing a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. I didnt care for the Julie Andrews movie, but this stage show produced by FSFCTG is great! The first act was good enough; the second act wowed me. The production cleverly uses tap dance as a metaphor for all things modern. The dances were stirring, and the singers sounded wonderful! The racism of the 1960s movie is tempered without becoming too PC; theres a hilarious English-to-Chinese-and-back-again turn on a well-known, well-loved early 20th century song. Two more performances this weekend: Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm.
