Sunday morning breakfast shakedowns! As far away as at Moolchand, the portents are there, a line of buses at the DefCol Police Station, when I ask, Im told that they are standbye as there might be carry forward effects of the Chautala/Ajit Singh respect issues. We drive on towards the Moti Bagh/Ring Road crossing for breakfast at KFC, slight crowd but nothing unusual outside AIIMSc, there is regular parking in the inner lane off Rao Tularam Marg outside KFC, and out of the dozen cars parked there, the young constable picks on me to make me move my car because of VIP movement-indicating quite blatantly that parking is OK otherwise for obvious reasons which any person going to a market knows, so I ask him why me, he indicates that it is about profiling and that I look like the outsider I might be and that it is an issue of respect. Everybody else around is clean-shaven, and they can park their cars, it seems. Interesting. I re-park in an even deeper inner lane and walk back. When we leave, there are still enough cars parked on the same inner lane, but the young cop is missing, now replaced by an older one who appears to not have any objections to people parking on any of the lanes. A PCR van cruises past slowly too. And yes, the dosa, idli and upma at KFC, Moti Bagh, always wonderful, especially the fresh chutneys, tops. Driving and parking, while bearded and brown, reaches India, too, it seems. We do need a much more demographically wider police force on the roads in Delhi. Otherwise all that will happen is respect, deserving or not, for select local VIPs. One of whom is not getting state accommodation but wants it, and the other is getting state accommodation but does not want it, while I get pushed around in the name of respect.
