Sunday mornings, if I have to love driving to work, it would be on - TopicsExpress

Sunday mornings, if I have to love driving to work, it would be on Sunday morning. I sleep in 15 extra minutes on Sunday morning, I stop and buy myself a cheese Danish, turn on the music from 1960’s and have the street to myself. Sometimes I don’t see another car from home all the way to route 40. This morning I slept in those 15 minutes, this morning I bought that cheese Danish and listened to rock and roll. My Sunday morning turned into one I will never forget. I could not understand why the blazer was parked so strange in the driving lane of 441, when I moved over to pass I saw the man in the road. Someone’s brother, someone’s son, someone’s friend. I don’t know if he heard my comforting words, I don’t know if he heard me say “it will be alright” I do know he passed with me standing over him on a dark road, on a hot morning, just me, him and a lady that I hope will be able to forget what she must have just seen. I am sure we were alone just a very short time, but for me it was forever. No other cars no other sounds, just a woman crying and 60’s music coming from my open car door. I want to thank the kid in the big white T-shirt, he said he could direct traffic, and thank goodness for the fireman on the way to work, he was prepared like they always are with gloves and knowledge far beyond me. I don’t think I was to helpful to the 911 operator, but she managed to get rescue to where we were standing on that dark long road. I held the crying woman, I am sure the shock had not even began to wear off, I told her to be strong, I seem to have to say that to women a lot lately. I want to let that mans family know he didn’t pass alone, I was there wishing him a safe journey home. The fatal accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. Sunday while Angelita Michala Gardener, 33, of Summerfield, was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer south on U.S. 441. Just north of Northwest 35th Street, Raoul Alicea, 52, of Ocala, was walking east when he attempted to cross U.S. 441 and stepped into the path of the Blazer, according to FHP Sgt. Tammy Wildy.
