Sunday night snowshoe (2/8/2014) This hike is to introduce winter hikers to snowshoeing and experiencing the forest at night. See what winter has to offer, no bugs, the sounds of the forest at night, reflections of headlamps on the snow, and being out with friends. Headlamp required. Of course, if theres not enough snow depth, then crampons, microspikes, or stabilicers will be required. This two hour hike will be at the beautiful Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary in Princeton, Mass. We will hike non-technical trails in the dark with headlights to show our way, reading maps in the darkness, and locating the trail blazes in order to find direction. Our AMC co-leader is a naturalist on staff of this Mass Audubon Sanctuary. Depending on conditions, this is a relatively easy snowshoe covering just a few of the 12 miles of trails in forests, meadows, and wetlands. Some short sections are steep, but the summit of Brown Hill (1,312) may afford a spectacular starlight panorama in all directions, including views of Mts. Wachusett and Monadnock. There is a use fee of approximately $6 to $9. To register and more information see our REGI page https://regi.amcboston.org/641
