Sunday was the dive team’s monthly meeting and Sundays are the day we try to get everyone together for a dive. Sometimes training sometimes fun but we try to dive. This Sunday it was a bottle dive at the foot of Bay Ave in Point Pleasant Boro. You never know what you’re going to find, as we have in the past found guns, stoneware, bottles and sinkers here. We had checked the water and it looked pretty good. We came here for two reasons, one the tides were too early for the high tide and too late for the low in the inlet and number two Linda has never recovered a roll bottom bottle yet and wants one. In the last few months we have recovered six from here and it was too late to go the highlands. So Big Foot Joe and Linda and I with Bob S as surface support suited up and jumped in. WOW was the water cold! It was 38 degrees and that is 5 degrees colder than last year on this same date. Five degrees doesn’t sound like much but when you’re in the water it is! The visibility wasn’t all that bad, as long as you didn’t hit the bottom. This area can have a pretty silty bottom until you get around by the fishing dock! Linda didn’t get her round bottom bottle, but did get a condiment bottle. We think it is an old horseradish bottle and we are doing the research to find out. Big Foot came away with some nice milk bottles and one really nice small school milk bottle from the Manasquan Bay Head Dairies. I got some square milk bottles and a big brass boat hook head. So everyone got sometime, even Bob! He got cold!!!
