Sundays Tejano Reporter takes you deep into the hidden country side, on a one road in and out, The De La Zerda Cemetery. Knowing l was going deep into the forest and off road, l was grateful l took my truck. The dirt roads were badly flooded with puddles of mud, but my instinct that a cemetery was out there, kept me going farther and only need a truck wash. l escaped getting stuck numerous times...out in nowhere. Praise God!!! NOTE: The De La Zerda Cemetery, was the most meaningful historical visit, back into time, that lve ever experienced. This to me was sacred ground...I was in total Awe, as l stood there venerable, with no one around for miles, but truly felt these souls have been resting here for a very long time. So many unmarked old graves, due to years of wear, but l found one dating back to 1812 (Spanish Colonial) and knew that was NOT the oldest. Nemencio de la Zerda Sr., born in San Antonio 1803, served under 1836 Juan N. Seguin and purchased this land in 1839. Yes, these families were our early Spanish Pioneers from Lodi, close to Floresville, Texas and close to the banks of the San Antonio River. Thanks Stephen Schneider, for pointing and mapping me to this early cemetery. This was my last of three stops, but never expected it to be my story. I have to go back and start over, with more sun...to the families, a prayer was left for you. Saludos and thanks..Ricardo
