Sunday’s birthday boy is Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps: “I think that everything is possible as long as you put your mind to it and you put the work and time into it. I think your mind really controls everything.” I intentionally found this quote because of the day as much as the birthday. Michael Phelps did not just one day decide to take up swimming. He set goals and he worked toward them. We are called to do the same as we strive to do more in our lives. It takes work and it takes time but worthwhile goals give us new energy and a new sense of satisfaction with who we are. The reason this quote is so appropriate for today is that we are now halfway through 2013. How are you doing on those New Year’s resolutions? I would love to hear what some of you have accomplished so far this year. I know there have been some successes and it’s good to share. The biggest question now is what you will do with the rest of this year? Have a great day in the Lord’s house listening for his plan for your life.
