Sunderland Elementary School needs your vote. There is no registration or anything, you can vote once a day. :) Our community is comprised of the school FSO (similar to PTA), students, teachers, and staff, all of whom take part in the garden activities. The school’s Wellness Committee uses the garden in its campaign to change our school lunch program, implementing Farm to School. The garden is in partial shade and does not have long enough fall and spring growing seasons. We would like to buy a small greenhouse so that we may start our garden earlier in the spring before summer break, and extend the fall growing season. We would also like to acquire lesson planning materials for each grade level to facilitate incorporation of the school garden into different areas of the curriculum. We also are in need of additional garden tools, a shed, a drip irrigation system to teach conservation and make the garden more efficient, a composting system, and benches for lessons. Exposing children to gardening aids their understanding of basic science, and increases their environmental awareness.
