Sunderland have signed their eleventh player of the summer, adding Panathinaikos attacker Charis Mavrias for a £2.5 million fee. The 19-year-old Greek international signed a four-year deal with the English side, while the contract also contains a five percent sell-on clause for the Greek club. Paolo Di Canio chased the Greek winger throughout the summer, and originally saw a move fall apart for the young player, but the Italian manager did not end his pursuit for the 19-year-old and finally sealed the deal on Wednesday according to the Daily Star. The Greek youngster had only ever played for Panathinaikos before his move to the Stadium of Light on Wednesday. The attacker was promoted to the Greek side’s first team in 2010, making four appearances that season before becoming a starter with club the next two seasons. The attacker made 47 appearances for the club the past two seasons, scoring three times. The winger earned his first Greek national team call-ups last season, after playing in the U-19 and U-21 squads the season before. Sunderland will add Mavrias to Di Canio’s summer haul of Emanuele Giaccherini, American Jozy Altidore, keeper Vito Mannone, and forward David Karlsson, all of which have been added to the Sunderland first team this summer.
