Sunderland skipper John O’Shea is set to win his 100th cap for the Republic of Ireland against World Champions Germany tomorrow night. Having been a rock at the heart of the Irish defence for over 13 years, the Black Cats star will become the sixth Irishman to complete this feat, following in the footsteps of Robbie Keane and Shay Given. O’Shea’s 99th cap saw his side convincing 7-0 winners over a rookie Gibraltar side – who were only recognised by UEFA as an elgible footballing body this season. The stark contrast in opponents in these two games is not lost on O’Shea though, as former Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill’s men now turn their attentions to the Germans.
