#SuniTAFE in the National Press: SuniTAFE Land and Environment teacher Ray Cadmore was among 31 #Fulbright #Scholarship recipients announced at a Brisbane dinner last Thursday night which will allow him to later this year undertake research in the US. The 14-week program hosted by Forsyth Tech - Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will focus on the integration of new technologies into community colleges. Ray Cadmore said the 2014 Fulbright Scholarship would be the second overseas research study tour he has made in recent years. “Australia is changing and we’ve got to be more technically focused,” Mr Cadmore said. “I’m thrilled to receive the scholarship, it’s a rare honour and says a lot for the foresight and engagement of SuniTAFE in promoting future opportunities for our region.” Mr Cadmore said he was looking forward to seeing how the American experience of using community colleges to develop future workforce needs operated. He said Dr Gary Green, chief executive of Forsyth College, had observed that every time America came out of recession, the work skills requirements were more technical. He said he chose Forsyth Community College for his research as they were in the forefront of helping to change the industrial skills base of North Carolina. The Fulbright Program scholarships, funded by sponsors and the Australian and US governments, support researchers to travel to the US in a senior, postdoctoral, postgraduate or professional capacity. This year’s recipients will research across fields including science, technology, the arts, education and public policy. Almost 5000 others have completed scholarships since the Australian-American Fulbright Commission was established 65 years ago. Globally, the Fulbright Program has supported study visits involving over 325,000 people from 156 nations.
