Suntai: PDP worried over attempts to scuttle committe National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is worried by the refusal of some PDP leaders in Taraba to cooperate with the fact finding committee set up by the party to intervene in the matter concerning Governor Danbaba Suntai’s long absence from the state. The PDP had last week set up a committee headed by Senator Hope Uzodinma to intervene in the matter but some members of the party had gone to court and secured an order restraining the PDP and its fact finding committee from interfering in any matter bordering on the office of the Taraba State Governor. The development is said to have drawn the ire of the PDP leadership as sources within the party say the party is now considering taking a direct action to speedily resolve the leadership vacuum in the state. A source at the national secretariat of the party disclosed that ``the leadership is angry with what is happening in Taraba with respect to ongoing hide and seek game on the state of health of Governor Suntai, adding that``we are taking drastic action in due course.” He said the party had thought the panel will help to get everybody to come to the negotiating table to resolve the matter but that it appears some people are yet to see the need for that state to move forward. “They are not looking at the damage this is doing to our great party. We will not allow this to continue for long``, the source said. Some interest groups in Taraba State are unhappy with the action of the party as supporters of the state governor say the party`s action is coming late and that rather than a committee, the party should have directed its members in the state Assembly to initiate a medical examination to know the true state of health of the governor. “Setting up a committee is another delay tactics. Is PDP not the majority party in the state assembly? The party chairman should just direct the lawmakers to do the right thing in line with the constitution. Set up a medical panel and let the state know the state of health of the governor,” an insider source from Jalingo said. Many are also said to be unhappy that the party is acting late while the Presidency has also been foot dragging on the matter. Attempts to reach the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisah Metuh to confirm failed as he was not picking his phone.
