Super power: How America is ‘treating’ its citizen who contacted ebola in Liberia Posted By TheScoop on August 2, 2014 by Dare Lawal Two American health workers reportedly got infected with the deadly ebola while in Liberia. Today, one of them was flown back to the United States. Yes you heard right – while African countries are banning people with the disease from coming close to their borders, the US State Department decided to bring the sick American citizen back home. So what happens when he goes home? He’ll be flown to the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta where the doctors are confident that they can contain the disease in a special facility operated in conjunction with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designed to treat serious infectious diseases. “We are fully prepared for this type of situation. Physicians, nurses and staff are highly trained in the specific and unique protocols and procedures necessary to treat and care for this type of patient,” the hospital said in a statement. According to the hospital, they have an isolation unit where they will place the patient, and it is physically separate from other patient areas and has unique equipment and infrastructure that provide an extraordinarily high level of clinical isolation. The patient who was transported back home and arrived Atlanta on Saturday morning is Dr. Kent Brantly. He was transported in a private jet equipped with an Aeromedical Biological Containment System, which is a “portable, tent-like device” inside a modified Gulfstream.
