Supervisor, Clinical Respiratory Childrens Hospital - Washington, DC As the nation’s children’s hospital, the mission of Children’s National Medical Center is to excel in Care, Advocacy, Research and Education. The Respiratory Care Clinical Supervisor (RCCS) is the front line representative for the Respiratory Care Management Team; assuring by observation and audits that departmental clinical, regulatory, financial practices and resources meet policy and operational needs of CNMC. The RCCS performs two primary role functions: 1) Direct Patient Care and 2) Shift Operations Management. The RCS spends approximately 50 percent of their time in Direct Patient Care and 50 percent of their time in clinical and operations management which includes indirect patient care, committee membership, hospital program practice and quality, team meetings, clinical practice council facilitator and action planning and measurement. As a direct care provider the RCCS delivers competent care; applying advanced clinical skills to intervene in complex patient care situations and to mentor staff in problem resolution. As a clinical expert he/she advocates for patient safety and clinical outcomes. The RCCS assigns work, supervises patient care by direct and indirect observation and assist staff at the bedside. In addition to clinical leadership, the RCCS assists the Managers and Division Chief in establishing best practice performance, practice standards and assures adherence to departmental Clinical Practice Guidelines. The RCCS advocates and requires accountability, professional communication, teamwork and shared decision-making of their team members. The RCCS will be required to work nights, weekends and Holidays as required for the optimal functioning of the department and provide coverage as deemed necessary by the Managers and Division Chief. Under the direction of the Respiratory Care Service Managers, the RCCS is responsible for the supervision of respiratory care activities for Acute Care, Critical Care, Emergency Room and other related patient care areas within CNMC. The RCCS assumes a leadership role in the development of policies and Performance Improvement activity and implementation. The RCCS strives to assure appropriate coordination and distribution of staffing and resources. Direct Reports: RCP I-IV, Equipment Technician Graduate of a Co ARC approved school of Respiratory Therapy, A.A. Degree. Prior Experience: Quality Improvement, evaluation, counseling and coaching. Required Education and Training Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Administration or other related field. 5 years of progressive related experience. 1 year supervisory or 2 years administration/team leader experience in related job function. Expertise in the area of specialty. Strong knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory agency requirements. Demonstrated leadership and management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred/Desired Training Good interpersonal and communication skills with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Has strong clinical and communication skills and demonstrated ability to apply basic principles and techniques of management and supervision including the ability to direct and motivate. Ability to develop and maintain constructive interpersonal relationships and promote team collaboration and cooperation during conflict and difficult situations. Time management and organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines. Has knowledge of best practice for clinical performance, infection prevention and patient safety. Ability to manage changing workloads, staff & equipment shortages and patient care issues. Basic computer skills: data entry, e-mail, E.M.R., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Planning and conducting in-service education and training. Preferred/Desired Special Knowlege, Skills Abilities Experienced in department budget and interpersonal communication. Licensure & Certification Current and valid Washington DC license Respiratory Care Practitioner License. Registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification
