Support THISability for Peace! I was eventually overcome by a long-term temptation and launched the English page of “THISability for Peace” on Facebook. In a language-game, I transformed “disability” to “This-ability” to emphasize on abilities of persons with disabilities. The purposes of creating this page are: To connect the persons with disabilities all around the world, To introduce Iranian individuals with disabilities to their international pairs, To bring Iran into the current literature of disability studies globally, And most importantly: To apply the potential of disability concept to promote the peace and friendship among the people from different cultures and countries. Therefore, everybody is welcomed to join the page regardless of their physical conditions. In the public announcement I prepared to inform launching the page, I have emphasized: “We believe that disability, or THISability, is able to enhance mutual understanding and peaceful relations between the citizens of our global village. All we need to do is getting to know each other, as well as becoming familiar with our individual and social commonalities and differences. Knowledge creates better understanding, we believe… We do believe that a huge potential is laid within our thoughts, hearts and souls to be united globally. Our final goal is to become a better person for ourselves and for each other, to make the world a better place to live and to love.” Please join us on Facebook. We like your “Like”s! https://facebook/thisabilityforpeace About me: I am Negin Hosseini-Goodrich, an Iranian-American journalist, writer and disability researcher. I was a seasonal journalist in my country, Iran, for more than 15 years, and was working for Ettela’at newspaper, the oldest and biggest newspapers in Iran. I have no disability, neither does any of my immediate family; however, disability has been my concern ever since I have recognized myself. Whatever I have done in my life professionally, academically, and voluntarily, has been disability-related. I used to cover disability news and stories for Ettela’at newspaper for more than 15 years before I came to the States in 2010. For many years, I have been working for and with disability organizations in Tehran as a volunteer, as well as with Iran National Paralympic Committee. As a journalist and writer, I have attended three Paralympic games: Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012, resulting in publication of 2 books in Farsi on Paralympics. Besides, “Disability and Media” was the field of my PhD dissertation in Iran, a doctoral program I left unfinished after I came to the States. My other book: “An Introduction on Disability Studies; a Sociological Approach” will be published soon to mark the first Persian book on the academic field of “disability studies”. I am now a PhD student at Purdue Lafayette, trying to bring disability concept to my fields of study: Communication and English as Second Language. I do my best to develop my newest international project: “THISability for Peace”
