Biography of Minister of Interior Afghanistan General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang, the Interior Minister of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, who is a well-known and effective academic character, has served for many years in the Ministry of Interior Affairs. General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang completed his higher education in the field of security in Police Academy in 1359 (1980). After graduation from the Academy, he started his job in the Kabul Police Headquarter as Second Lieutenant. Since 1980 to 1993 General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang undertook different responsibilities in Afghan police force. During this time he received four extra ordinary promotions from the rank of Second Lieutenant to the rank of colonel From 1373 to 1381 (1994 to 2002),General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang has served as Training and Education Commander, Operation Director, Brigade Commander, Deputy Brigade Commander. He has also served in investigative and detective sections of this command, as Instructor in the consultative board of this command, as Documents and Communication Director of the Political Department. General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang was appointed as chief of staff of the General Department for Development of Fundamental Regulations 1382 (2002); as General Director of PRT Central Office in 1383 (2003), as Police Chief of Takhar province in 1385 (2006), and as commander of Pamir (303) regional command In 1389 (2010) Ghulam Mujtaba Patang was appointed as commander of the Education and Training General Command of the Ministry of Interior Affairs where he provided significant services for improving quality and quantity of trainings for Afghan National Police. During his tenure as commander of the Training General Command, Afghan Police Academy got the membership of the world police academies for the first time in the history of police in Afghanistan. Creation of several electronic libraries in the Ministry of Interior and police educational centers, compilation and publication of scientific and academic publications about police regulations, developing and correcting curriculum for police training centers, sending students to foreign countries for learning professional trainings, creating coordination boards with NTM-A and European Union and Police projects are the main activities led by Ghulam Mujtaba Patang for the trainings of the Afghan National Police. These activities turned Mr. Ghulam Mujtaba Patang into an academic personality in Afghan National Police General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang has written many significant publications about Afghan National Police, which are unprecedented in the history of Afghanistan. According to a decree by the president, General Ghulam Mujtaba Patang was appointed as Deputy Minister of Public Protection Force where in ten months, he developed new mechanism and structures for this Deputy Ministry and took important steps for dissolution of private security companies, protection of public properties and economic development. Due to his tireless works in the Ministry of Interior to serve Afghan people, he was identified by the president as a qualified person for undertaking the position of Afghan Interior Minister and was introduced to the parliament for confidence vote; after winning the vote confidence, he practically started his work in the Ministry as Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Training and education development, professionalization, democratic policing, and police and public cooperation, security, sustainable peace, fighting corruption, prisons reform, and human rights, constitute his main priorities.
