Supporting young parents in North Yorkshire We know how hard it can be to cope with having a baby and how important it is to have support from someone who really understands what life is like for you. Becoming a parent changes everything. It’s a lot to cope with, especially if you’re facing other challenges at the same time. Sometimes all you want to do is to talk about what’s happening with someone who knows what you’re going through. You might be worried about being pregnant or looking after your baby. You may be wondering if you’ll ever be yourself again. You may be unsure about what services to use. At times like that, sharing your worries with a person who’s been through the same kind of experiences as you can help a lot. That’s what our Birth and Beyond Community Supporters are for. They’re parents from the local community. They’re volunteers who work for a national charity that helps to make being a parent a positive experience. They’re trained to offer confidential support to individual parents. They never criticise, judge or tell parents what to do, they just help them feel more confident and make their own decisions. Do you know someone who needs that kind of support? Do you know someone who could be a Birth and Beyond Community Supporter? To find out more about what it is like to have a personal Birth and Beyond Community Supporter or how to become one of our volunteers, contact Viv, Local Project Manager for the North East Region on 07720 087 912 or [email protected] and she’ll arrange to meet you at a time and place that suits you.
