Suprabhat dear SJ buddies! My pick of the day is this awesome duet I chose to dedicate to my most favorite actress to grace the silver screen, the beautiful and talented Vyjayanthimala on her birthday...I admire this lady for her acting, beauty, charm, dignity, grace, humility, pride and success.....She is an exponent of Bharat Natyam and was nick named Twinkle Toes..... She is also a singer, choreographer, parliamentarian and an avid golfer....Starting her career as a young teenager, she went on to become the most successful female actress in the history of Indian Cinema.....Vyju, as she is popularly known to friends, she is the first South Indian to appear in Hindi movies and carved a niche for herself by including her dance prowess with her histrionics in acting and has earned the title of Super Star of Hindi Cinema....Her career spanned two decades and she chose to retire at her prime even though she was a much sought after leading lady of her time and was flooded with offers.... Vyjayanthimala won four Filmfare Best Female Actress Awards and won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Devdas which she refused to accept cos she felt that her role in the movie was as important as the leading ladys and was the only actress to be nominated for two movies in the same year, Sadhana and Madhumathi....She has acted opposite all the leading actors of her time...Her maiden movies in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi all were very big hits.....On her retirement, she chose to venture into politics and served both in the Rajya Sabha as well as Lok Sabha. The song is written by Kaviraj Shailendra whose lines tell it all, Mere apne, apna yeh milan sangam hai yeh Gunga Jaumna thha...jo sachh hai saamne aya hai.... jo beeth gaya ek sapna thha......It is pictured on Vyjayanthi and RK who excelled in their performance in this scene, she with her dance and charm, and he with his cynical emotion....Lata and Mukesh did an amazing soulful rendition...SJ gave a superb composition with the sitar as a predominant music instrument..... I guess, I can write on and on about this number, but will end here to have you feel the sentiment yourself. ENJOY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY VYJAYANTHIMALA, THE ONE AND ONLY! August 13, 2014
