Surely there is a better way forward for this family than putting the mother in jail and sending two young kids to foster care. This case is not about abuse or neglect, but desperation. After many years of traveling round the globe, I have come to believe that the United States is one of the more difficult places in the world to be a mother…while we excel at judging and punishing, there is so very little support available to parents. Its so easy to cast those stones, but it is very difficult to be a single parent…and ever easier to slide into homelessness. I hope that the court shows some common sense, and helps this woman get back on her feet.
