Surely, this is no time to sing Musevenis and his failed NRMs - TopicsExpress

Surely, this is no time to sing Musevenis and his failed NRMs praises. This Sseruwagi Godfrey Mitch must have emerged straight from planet Mars, or something. First, Museveni is not the Father of any nation - at least not Ugandas. His economic performance and record has seen out of control hyperinflation, along with a fatal rise in the cost of living, dire conditions of poverty and alarming state of livelihoods. Those who see successes in Musevenis regime are those closest to the President and his cohorts. Ordinary majority of Ugandans have lost interest in politics and anything to do with government - thanks to Museveni and his NRM tragically failing. About political change; this Sseruwagi must have been in the bush with Museveni, for far too long, to have forgotten that the UPC and KY coalition of 1962 achieved a peaceful transition of power in the country, in which, the DP lost power. Equally, the UPC won the 1980 general elections, in which, Paul Muwanga and the Military Commission peacefully transferred power to the new government. It was Museveni, being leader of the beleaguered UMP, who lost, coming third, in his own Mbarara North constituency; and who also foiled the peace and the party threat: immediately following the election results, he ran into the bush and waged a criminal war against a democratically elected government of UPC. Then the bloodshed followed, especially in the notorious Luwero Triangle massacres. Land mines became the horror stories Ugandan civilians faced and endured on a daily basis. Museveni and the NRA should have realised freely wielding guns and bombs among civilians kills and destroys innocent lives and their properties. When Tito Okello Toppled Obotes government and freely handed it over to Mr Museveni and the NRA/M, the latter resorted to untold acts of barbaric violence and killings, in which, mainly northerners, in particular Acoli, perished. If anyone fear peaceful transition, that person is Mr Museveni, who has never won a single election. If anyone uses force and intimidation, along with faulty electoral processes, among others, to rig elections, then that person is Mr Museveni - in allegiance with his cohorts. You only have to ask former spy boss, renegade General David Sejusa, now exiled in the UK, to learn how Museveni rigged elections, including the one of 2006. Mr Museveni cannot prepare the country for anything; let alone a peaceful democratic transition. He should peacefully step down and allow Ugandans to start rebuilding their country after decades of ruins and devastation. Contrary to his supporters misguided imaginations, believing Museveni is the only one who can run the country, the President is actually among the most incompetent individuals to have presided over a government, in living memory. With Museveni having ruled over the decades, Uganda has been the most unfortunate country the world has ever seen. The NRM, on assuming power, spoke of fundamental change, but we have seen worse than fundamental ruins. They promised inclusive rule but we have seen one tribe dominate politics, the military, the police and commerce, among others. With Museveni and the NRM the word sectarianism become alight, consuming every aspect of life in society. In todays Uganda, the word patriotism has become a sound of mockery and ridicules. The regime has sold all the public assets to the private sector without any form of regulatory framework or supervision. Those who praise the NRM and Museveni for reckless privatisation should stop and ask the USA and Europe, along with the West; what brought about the credit crunch which brought the global economy to its knees. In todays Uganda, privatisation has replaced any responsible government policy of creating wealth and providing good and efficient public and social services. Millions of citizens today risk losing everything to the ruthless and ravenous loan sharks. The land question is a case in point. A source has said of Sseruwagis book: The book further proposes possible solutions for lasting peace, stability and unity of the country even when the liberators and defenders of our freedoms for the last thirty years will have retired; It proposes solutions to election violence during and after elections; emulate the wisdom of Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew to demonetarize and de-commercialize elections which make the country’s political leaders as the first promoters of corruption; merging of different party manifestos to achieve one unified National Development Agenda for a Presidential five year term of office; appointment of disciplined, non violent members from the opposition to cabinet positions and other positions of responsibility to achieve the true spirit of multiparty democratic dispensation and progressive collective responsibility of a government in power; take an extra step in enforcing the full force of the law to protect all citizens. Copying and pasting ideas and concepts from others may be smart and expedient, but practicing the same will provide the ultimate proof of competent dexterity and due diligence. What more can Museveni and the failed NRM give Ugandans after over 28 years of havoc and disasters? They may look impressive on paper; they may sound eloquent in speeches and words, but action will only have to speak louder should anyone believe anything Museveni and the NRM say. David Okun.
