Surf Rock This genre became popular in the early 1960s (although its origins were much earlier), and has a unique guitar sound. I always loved those surf guitar riffs. It went out of style by the late 1960s, but has had a huge resurgence in popular culture. Some of the things included here are somewhat crossover in style (for instance, John Hiatt), but most are instrumental, although surf music as we all know often had lyrics and was enormously popular (duh…Beach Boys). The selections range from early surf music to contemporary surf music. Surf music has influenced and spawned other genres, such as Psycho Surf, but we dont need to get into that.
