Surfing (The outdoor kind!) Sunshine and sand, and by warm breezes fanned, for the surfers, the ultimate quest For that perfect lined run, the ultimate fun, vying boldly, defeating the rest. And it’s all looking well as the vast ocean’s swell holds the promise of great recreation, Seeing magical feats and visual treats which fires and inspires adulation. So this intrepid group of combatants, the youth and some veterans take up their boards, And enter the spray and the foam, make their way through the breakers and head out towards The far distant swell, where they hope to foretell that exact point, to merit success As, paddling in haste, and unwilling to waste even seconds, they seek the right crest. The incoming tide guarantees a fine ride if the optimal moment is planned, Scrambling on hands and knees, for that moment they see when they, balancing crazily, stand And transferring weight, momentarily wait as the line-up approaches – a chance! Quick! Away with a forward lean making the take-off clean, jockeying for the right stance. Ride with the curvature, seeking then to ensure clean, slicing motion ahead, Looking out for a tube to ride inside – move! Crouching forward to make it and tread Back on the board to brake and afford some manoeuvring space instantly, Great green wall at the side as the hissing board slides down that liquid slope, head spinningly. Well, that is the theory, but likely, the cheery band revelling in this water sport, Get it right on occasion to general elation, but not quite as much as they hoped! The reality when confronting the sea, is that it almost always will win, For the ocean’s the boss and some of those who think otherwise, should think again! But nevertheless, the thrill of the quest and the challenge when feeling that thrill Of the white water ride on a surging full tide is living life, getting its fill. So let all the sailors take their yachts and whalers and relish the seagoing urge, For me it’s the land or that wide strip of sand where the sea and the surf madly merge!
