Surfrider Foundation Australia has partnered with Fauna and Flora International Australia to prepare the Australian version of the Good Scrub Guide which profiles facial exfoliates on the Aust market and lets consumers know if they do or don’t contain microplastics. This data will also be uploaded to the Beat the Microbead App – a consumer aid which can scan the barcodes of the products whilst shopping. Tiny particles of plastic have been added to possibly thousands of personal care products sold around the world. These microbeads, hardly visible to the naked eye, flow straight from the bathroom drain into the sewer system contributing to the Plastic Soup swirling around the world’s oceans. Keep your eyes peeled for the Aussie Good Scrub Guide to be launched later this year.
