Surge Stage Comeback Win Over Moraine Valley James Kilpatrick scored 20 points as Cincinnati State rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half to defeat Moraine Valley, 79-68, in the first round of the Surge Classic. The No. 4 Surge, 6-0, will host Monroe Community College, 5-2, in Saturdays tourney final at 3 p.m. Monroe, ranked No. 6, escaped with an 83-82 win over Danville in Fridays first game. Freshman sharpshooter Cory Smith keyed Cincinnati States comeback, sinking 3-pointers on three consecutive possession to give the Surge a 57-56 lead. The team trailed only once more after that. Smith finished with 12 points. Kilpatrick, who was 8-of-13 from the field, also grabbed nine rebounds and made four steals while topping the 20-point mark for the second time in his career. Deandre Hollins-Johnson had 16 points and six assists and Demetrius Dortch contributed 14 points. Brian Townsend led Moraine Valley with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Cyclones shot 61 percent. Cincinnati State shot just 46 percent, breaking a streak of four games in which the Surge shot over 50 percent.
