Surgery went well. I was conscious for the last part of it when the leads were being placed. There was a fair bit of pain during but, as expected, Id been dosed up with enough Happy Juice so that I could tolerate it fairly well. Im not suffering from post traumatic stress or anything like it. Im not bothered about the idea of repeating some of that in a couple of weeks time. The staff at Stanford Hospital were terrific. There were quite a large number of people there in the operating room and several nursing and other staff involved before and after. One of the things that I appreciated was that every one of them came to introduce themselves to me before the procedure and explain their role. It was a little overwhelming (because there were so many of them), but helped to lessen any anxiety that I might have had. I am now home resting. I am somewhat sore and very awkward, both of which are resolving states. I am reasonably comfortable with heavy duty pain medication every four hours. I slept reasonably last night, although moving me up every time. My gait, strenght and balance are improving as the swelling goes down. I can now walk around the house on my own with the help of a stick. I still need help with dressing and bathroom stuff. I am lucky I have a wonderful spouse. Both he and my son are helping to feed me, with is also awkward because I am weak and unsteady. For some reason neither of them like the idea of me dropping food and drink and plates and cups all over the floor. Ive explained that the results could be considered to be creative art in some quarters, but they dont seem convinced. :-) Ill be dropping by my computer screen as I feel able. Ill be catching up on TV and other screen offerings from the horizontal position for the rest of the day. The device seems to be working. Ive had no major spasms since the implant.
