Surprise Blockbuster Snow Event? 3 of 5 What are each of the models saying about the development of this storm? NAM (used for short term): Precip moves in overnight Sunday into Monday.. starts as snow and remains mainly snow with the exception of perhaps the immediate shoreline, towards the parkway.. and Cape May county, changing over to a wintry mix of rain for a portion of Monday afternoon. As temps fall back below freezing, we see the change back to snow in those areas with the heaviest being seen late Monday into early Tuesday. GFS (American model for long term) Precip moves in after midnight Sunday.. light snow to start for EVERYONE, then perhaps a little rain for the coastline and Cape May county, just like NAM has modeled.. Changeover to heavy snow happens Monday night and lasts through the overnight hours and tapers off early Tuesday. EURO (Considered the King of the models) Precip moves in early Monday morning, some mixing for the shore and Cape May, but looks to be overall colder... it also holds onto the precip through the day on Tuesday as it REALLY stalls out the low and allows for rapid intensification. Temperatures Tuesday night will be in the lower 20s so snow ratios will be jacked up.. instead of the 10:1, we could easily see 15:1 ... for those who dont know, 10 inches of snow usually equates to 1 inch of liquid. The colder we are, the more air in each flake, the easier it is to pile up
