Surrender but never give up. As human beings, we like to be in control. We imagine ourselves as masters of our own destiny. But the abrupt arrival of an unexpected crisis jars us back to reality. We live in a broken and pain-filled world. A friend of mine in ministry was just diagnosed with a tumour on her spine. What are her options? She could curse God and die. She could become bitter and blame God for his failure to care for her. Or she could surrender her life once again into his loving care. I am happy to report that she has chosen the third option. Surrendering our lives into god’s loving care brings a peace that surpasses human explanation or fabrication. “Be anxious for nothing, “the apostle Paul reminds us. “but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6-7, NKJV). When you face an unexpected crisis, when your cherished dreams vanish like the morning mist, surrender, but never give up. Hold on to the one who has promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5). Then we can boldly declare in the midst of an unexpected crisis, ‘The lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me? (Heb 13:6). Amen Baena.
