Susan Liliha Warner I just finished watching Keanu Sai give a four - TopicsExpress

Susan Liliha Warner I just finished watching Keanu Sai give a four hour presentation/q&a on Molokai... I have seen his basic presentation so often now that I almost have it memorized... However, tonight was very different... he took questions from the audience during the lecture instead of making everyone wait... and he talked at some length about what to expect once the Hawaiian Kingdom is officially reinstated... I was most impressed with the fact that he is not trying to build himself a kingdom but is adamant about the importance of taking time to find the best experts to assist with things like Hawaiian Kingdom currency, public education, import/export, etc.... He said that King Kamehameha I said the leader of our country must never be someone who is delusional, or illiterate... and we need to support that same kind of thinking... He said that he sees the transition from American society to Hawaiian society to be 7 years and during that time we all need to find ways to counterbalance our US indoctrination with Hawaiian education, especially history and ōlelo Hawaii... He said all of our schools will become Hawaiian Immersion because Hawaiian will be the national language and that will support us more easily tracing our mookuauhau and reading source documents, most of which are in the Hawaiian newspapers because that was the easiest way to be sure as many Kingdom subjects as possible were getting as much information as possible as quickly as possible... What I am left with now is realizing that before 1893, Hawaiians were an exceptional group of extremely literate people... Hawaiians went from oral speech in their native language, to command of both English and Hawaiian in both oral and written form in less than 100 years... During the American war between the states, Hawaiians were the first non-European/American country to create a constitutional government, to claim independence and make treaties with more than 20 nations in the world, to put electric lighting in Iolani Palace before the The White House or Buckingham Palace... Kālakaua was the first monarch of any country to circumnavigate the world... Our Liliuokalani knew international law well enough to make sure that what she did with respect to the armed insurgency would serve her people and it has taken us a long time to get there but she essentially made sure our country would be held in trust until it could overcome its occupation and redevelop itself again... In 1893 we Hawaiians were smart enough and innovative enough to keep going and going... and like the Ever Ready Bunny, here we are 121 years later still going... But I feel like we have been drugged by the enemy and americanized and now, at 69, I am looking at how many like me are old and under educated in our language and history and have so far to go... How dare they create so much harm and still continue to lie about it!!
