Suschainable Project Igniting chain reaction for sustainable - TopicsExpress

Suschainable Project Igniting chain reaction for sustainable energy Fossil fuel contribute much to the world development and human civilization. But with the constant overuse of fossil fuel, the world is entering an ever-increasing dangerous state. The global warming, climate change and other environmental impacts are accelerating at an ever increasing speed affecting every countries and everybody in the world. Before we realize it, humanity might not survive long enough to deplete all fossil fuel supply. According to IEA (2012) the climate goal of limiting warming to 2°C is becoming more difficult and costly with each year that passes. If drastic action is not taken before 2017, all the allowable CO2 emissions would be locked-in by energy infrastructure. Furthermore, the current Fossil fuel utilization rate increases at a much higher than renewable energy. The current renewable energy growth trend is not fast enough to offset the increasing use of Fossil fuel. And if we do not act soon, it will not be long before it is too late. One of the more promising use of renewable energy is the most abundant and readily available Solar energy, especially in tropical regions where solar intensity is higher than others. In Thailand, it is calculated that if only 1% of the country’s area is used to collect solar radiation, the energy yield would be almost 800 million tons of crude oil per year, comparable to almost 2 months’ worth of total crude oil production of North Korea. And will reduce CO2 emission by 1800 ton per year, comparable to 5% of yearly CO2 emission of Switzerland. Seeing this great opportunity, I hereby propose a plan for The Suschainable Project, an NPO with the goal of starting a chain reaction of adopting renewable energy to rapidly catching up with the growing Fossil fuel, help coping with CO2 emission and global warming crisis. Suschainable project will offer financial support to industries to implement the use of renewable energy in their manufacturing process. The first phase will focus on Solar Water Heating(SWH), the system that capture Solar energy to heat up water. This technology addresses many challenges associated with other renewables. For example : the huge investment of hydropower, the limited availability of wind power, the low efficiency of Solar cell for electric generation at 20% VS the conversion efficiency of 74% of Solar Water Heating. The technology also eliminate the need of establishing an upstream renewable power company with large investment, managerial hurdles and dependent on government support. In this first phase, Suschainable project will offer financial support to any industry that wish to install Solar Water Heating in its factory. The primary targets would be textiles, food & beverage and rubber industry, all of which have extensive need of energy for producing hot water & steam in their manufacturing. The industry shall get free installation of SWH, after the installation the industry can get the benefit of significantly reduced production cost and will repay a fraction of this saving back to Suschainable project monthly. For optimum projects, the repayment could end as fast as 4 years and Suschainable project will continue to use the collected fund to supports other projects in the same manner. With the initial seeding of $500,000, the project can fund about 900 square meter of SWH which substitutes for 105 tons of crude oil per year and reduce 237 tons of CO2 emission yearly. With optimum candidate selection criteria, could reinvest in projects every 4 years. Suschainable project is also extremely flexible and scalable. The project can start operating with as small as $100,000 although more seeding yield more effective results, in operations the project can work as a standalone organization or collaborate with many other government and non-government organization. The operations of Suschainable project will also have another significant indirect catalyzing effect on overall industry renewable energy adoption. As we offer some of the manufacturers SWH, they can lower their manufacturing cost and gain some competitive advantage in business. Due to competitive nature of business, this will attract attentions of other business entities, especially those in the same industrial sector as the beneficiary of Suschainable project and they will be more compelling to consider their own renewable projects to keep up with the business competition. With the bottom line of achieving reduced CO2 emission and helping global warming, promoting large numbers of SWH programs downstream in industries is by all means the better alternative with quantifiably greater results than power plant or other renewable energy.
