Suspect arrested for planting explosive device under parked car Police arrested a 28-year-old Victorville man for attempted murder after an explosive device was located underneath his ex-wifes car in a Redlands shopping center parking lot Monday. Members of the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department Bomb and Arson Unit were able to safely remove the explosive device and detonate it away from vehicles and shoppers. Redlands Police were called to the Redlands Town Center shopping center in the 1000 block of Alabama Street at about 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, after a woman noticed a suspicious looking device under her vehicle, a Ford Flex parked in the northwest corner of the shopping center parking lot. Police evacuated seven stores in the center, including J.C. Penney, two restaurants, a shoe store, jewelry store, hair salon and a nail salon. Police also cordoned off a large area of the parking lot near the vehicle, affecting several dozen vehicles while bomb squad members removed the device and a trained canine searched for additional devices. No other devices were located and the perimeter was opened shortly after 5 p.m. No one was injured. Redlands Police officers located and detained 28-year-old Steven James Sunny at a home in San Bernardino at about 6 p.m. Monday. Officers along with FBI and ATF agents served search warrants in Victorville and San Bernardino and recovered evidence at both locations. Sunny was arrested for three counts of attempted murder and possession of an explosive device with intent to kill. He is being held in San Bernardino County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
