Suspected DUI Drivers Collide with Patrol Vehicles In a two-week period this month, suspected DUI drivers twice collided with Office of the Sheriff patrol cars. In the first incident, Deputy Sheriffs were on a traffic stop on Highway 4 near Byron Highway. The vehicles were on the right shoulder and off the roadway with the overhead emergency lights on. All occupants were out of the vehicles and standing on the shoulder when a driver sideswiped a patrol and then collided into the back of another patrol car pushing it into the stopped vehicle. The suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The California Highway Patrol later arrested the driver for DUI. In the second case, a driver collided into the back of a sergeants patrol car on San Pablo Avenue while it was stopped at a traffic signal. The sergeant was checked out at the hospital. The driver was arrested by the CHP for DUI. The Avoid the 25 crackdown on impaired driving runs through the New Year holiday.
