Suspended Vodafone U-20 and Rewa striker Iosefo Verevou has been given a ray of hope by Fiji Football Association. The parent body has asked Verevou to pay his fine of $3360.00 as decided by the Arbitration Tribunal before a decision on his suspension is reconsidered- a positive outcome of which may see the 2013 Junior Football of the Year and former Fiji U17 captain getting a chance to don the national jumper at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand next year. Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar said Rewa Football Association wrote a letter to the parent body on 5th and 12th of this month seeking reconsideration on Verevou’s suspension and for him to play for the Vodafone Fiji U20 side in the FIFA U20 World Cup 2015. He said the Board of Control discussed the issue at length during its meeting last weekend and it was resolved that since Fiji FA Arbitration Tribunal had already ruled that the player must pay the fine of $3360.00 before playing at any level of football, Verevou therefore must first pay his fine, and once that is done, the Board of Control will then consider the request for him to play in consultation with the Arbitration Tribunal. Kumar said the same ruling will also apply to the other suspended players. Verevou, Avneel Kumar (Ba), Waisea Yavala (Ba), Kelvin Naidu (Lautoka) and Samuela Govo (Lautoka) were suspended from all levels of football for three years and fined $5000 for breaking camp just before the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U-20 World Cup playoffs. Rewa FA however took his case to Arbitration where his suspension and fine were reduced to $3360 and 1 year respectively, making him eligible to play after July 31, 2015.
