Suzanne Preston Blier- Robert Goldwater was one of the few modernists who took the time to learn African art - and to write about it. While the MPA museum is now gone- this collection became a key anchor for the Metropolitan Museum of Art galleries in this area. Nelson Rockefeller funded the MPA; he was the son of Abby Rockefeller, a leading member of MOMAs board when Alfred Barr was engaging African art along with modernism. She gave an important Benin head to Harvard in this era. Thanks to Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju for posting
