Swami Vivekanand was born as Narendra Nath Datta on July 12, 1863 in Kolkata. He was inclined towards spirituality and religion from a really early age. His teacher was Ramakrishna who left a tremendous influence on him. After Ramakrishna’s death, he became a wandering monk and traveled across the Indian sub-continent. He traveled to the U.S. to represent India as a delegate in the 1893 Parliament of World Religions. He conducted several discourses and lectures on Hindu philosophy across the Americas and Europe. Swami Vivekanand’s writings include Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, Vedanta Philosophy: An address before the graduate philosophical society, Lectures from Colombo to Almora, and Vedanta philosophy: lectures on Jnana Yoga. His posthumously published works are Inspired Talks, Addresses on Bhakti Yoga, The East and the West, Speeches and writings of Swami Vivekananda; a comprehensive collection, Practical Vedanta, and Jnana Yoga. Swami Vivekanand died on July 4 in 1902.
