Swamp Thing. Last night when the birds falling death out of the trees from the heat wave in Amsterdam there was something going on in the bar. After JJ Cale flies away into the history of memories he is still alive and kicking in our minds. I start my version of a Swampy night of music because that music makes you sweaty but also make you feel good. The first song was absolute JJ Cale’s You Got Something got the sound of warm weather and there we go. JJ Cale made us feel good and we go further with the songs and I put Link Wray on and Fire and Brimstone and Followed by the Staple Singers super version of version of Bob Dylan’s A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall. We feel the swamps in our heart and that not crazy because Amsterdam in build on swampland. But the swamp music got something special it’s that sound that brings you into a special feeling. Gospel meets the blues and rocking out. I love the sound of that and I find out for myself the band don’t need to go out of the Swamps in Swampland USA. As The Crow Flies is Tony Joe White and that sound brings you back into alligator land. Rory Gallagher is doing an amazing version on his Irish tour album. The Rolling Stones Exile is a swamp album so Sweet Virginia fills the bar and it felt good. Then the Staples again If I Could Hear Pray My Mother Again and there is my good friend Ramsay Midwood who got the same greatness as JJ Cale because they made out of the same piece of wood. Rotten Alabama is making the people jump up and they start moving and the dance is hot and some are sitting still on their chair and only the top of their body shakes. A group of youngsters come inside and they are from the time where boy bands are famous of their music for supermarkets. But the magic was there and the youngsters start dancing on Rotten Alabama and a girl asked what is this music it’s perfect. I smiled and told her the name of Ramsay and said proud he is my best friend. But the swamp thing goes on and Bobby Charles All the Money break the record followed by JJ Cale again with Let Me Do it To You. Link Wray Juke Box Mama start pumping it rhythm and there are the moves again is milled and fill the glasses with beer and I see a dark man swinging on the music and he shout hey brother this is the music from my country you’re the best play me some Swamp Dogg and I put Redneck in the speakers and the guy jumps and he smiled the biggest smile ever. He comes in and shakes my hand and called me his white brother before he left with that groove in his legs and body. I was on the move with the grooves in my own made swamp land. The heat was killing and the night goes by with some old blues and jazz music fits in the swamp sound. Parchman Farm of Mose Allison, Cookie and the Cupcakes with I Got You On Mind, Smiley Lewis with I Hear You Knocking, Graveyard train by the Creedence Clearwater Revival, More Ramsay Midwood with Weary Head, Then The Gourds with Maria and for Emmy I play Little Walter Sad Hours and A guy asking for Lester Butler of the Red Devils and I play So Lo Down. I’m happy and the swamp night became a special night to forget the extreme heat for the Lowlands. Before my last song I want to hear Link Wray’s Rise and Fall Of Jimmy Stokes and Ramsay Midwood’s Feed My Monkey and then the end is Crazy Mama and JJ Cale make this night complete and I know it’s good.
