Sway (A) 29th June Considering the affection for this fixture - TopicsExpress

Sway (A) 29th June Considering the affection for this fixture it was surprising that we struggled to find a full team. However, David Field and his brother had to drop out at the last moment due to family problems and we travelled with just nine. Sway kindly lent us two experienced old hands, filled their side with lively young colts who could bowl and field and sent us in to bat. The skipper promptly went for a duck and Adrian and Glen were not far behind him. James initially did well, but fell again in his thirties and guest Chris Baughan contributed a useful twenty seven. However, the sun shined that afternoon on Christopher Cooke After a series of low scores the luck turned his way as we believe that he was dropped no less than six times and went on to make a terrific unbeaten 98 to see us to 196 for 6 at the end of the forty overs. In the reply we used no less than nine different bowlers, the pick of which was the not so easy rider Charlie (5,2,7,4), who even took a catch off his own bowling. This was quite an achievement considering that he was clearly very unwell with problems arising from recent dentistry. The Sway youngsters and the Marshall family duo battled well but in the end the home team were dismissed for 144 in the thirty fourth over. It was an enjoyable day that was slightly marred by our concern for Charlie who was unable to complete the journey home and had to be taken to Winchester A&E. We wish him well and hope to report an improvement in his condition soon. Da Chairman
