Sweden has had great success with a program designed to reduce traffic deaths. They realized that people will always make mistakes and that humans have certain human tendencies. They decided that to eliminate traffic deaths, the government would have to take the lead by changing the system of laws and more importantly the actual designs of the roads to make collisions impossible. Instead of just trying to punish people for being human, they are designing the system around what humans actually do. Imagine if our government could apply this philosophy on a larger scale. If we all have to participate in capitalism, fine.. but then you need to build it so the system doesnt externalize any costs and so that humans are treated humanely. Build birth control into the system instead of punishing people by making them have kids they cant afford. People are going to mate. We are animals. Stop punishing it, and instead design around it. This can apply in many direction. If we are really choosing capitalism as they system that is going to stay with humanity for thousands of years, lets retool it so it will work for everyone.
