Sweet Plantain - The Texas Tech University Presidential Lecture - TopicsExpress

Sweet Plantain - The Texas Tech University Presidential Lecture and Performance Series fall season continues with Sweet Plantain, a New York based string quartet that specializes in genre-blurring, original compositions and arrangements, as well as contemporary works by Latin American composers. Its unique style fuses Latin, classical, jazz and improvisational forms. The group’s mission is to give voice to a contemporary, urban, and Latino sound and bridge the gap between generations and musical genres. Artfully fusing the western classical traditions in which they were trained with the hip-hop, jazz improvisation, and Latin rhythms on which they were raised, their original writing and live shows educate and entertain. Separately hailing from the South Bronx, New Jersey and Venezuela, together these musicians give voice to a sound that is contemporary, multicultural and very New York. This avant-garde string quartet tours extensively with performances in France, Italy and Greece; Tchaikovsky Hall and The Spaso House Moscow; Cappella Hall, St. Petersburg; Amanyara Turks and Caicos as well as numerous engagements in North America spanning states from New York to San Antonio, Texas to Fairbanks, Alaska. There will be an opportunity to meet Sweet Plantain members at a CD signing immediately following the performance. General Admission tickets are $18.00 and are available through all Select-A-Seat locations (806) 770-2000 or selectaseatlubbock.
