Sweet Science Fitness Boxing Tip for the week: The key to staying relaxed during boxing is to always H.U.H.M(Hands Up,Head Moving) with the success of floyd mayweather jr. you see a lot of individuals adapting more of the shoulder roll style defense. Keeping your lead hand down while tucking the chin behind the left shoulder and utilizing the off hand(right hand) to catch and parry punches. But most do not have the timing,anticipation and cat like counter punching reflexes to adapt to this defense. The safest defense is always to have your hands up to your cheeks covering the soft tissue and small bones in your face. No need to have your hands on your temple for two reasons A. The Head and Skull are the hardest parts of your body and will protect themselves. B. You always want your hands in a punching position right at eye level but not two high. The hardest target to hit is a moving target!!! Always keep your head moving. This is probably the most unatural act in learning the sport but needs to be the thing you work on the most. learning how to punch is easy moving your head consistently and with anticipation takes work and effort but will pay off dividends!
