Sweet sweet Twinkle is still in search of her FOREVER home. Do you have room in your family for this loving girl? Meet TWINKLE: 6 year old spayed purebred female approximately 90 lbs., AKC Twinkle is a big sweet lovebug with beautiful expressive eyes. Twinkle was an owner surrender. Her owners had her since she was a puppy but had to move and could not take her with them. They actually brought her to the shelter where they were encouraged to call us, and we are so glad they did. Twinkle was obviously in a lot of pain when I first met her. In fact, it is amazing how sweet she was in spite of her pain. We stepped in to give this beautiful good-natured girl a chance. We took her to the Vet and found out that she most likely had untreated ACL injuries and now she has arthritis in her hips and legs. Her daily dose of a prescription Carpofen (similar to Rimadyl) combined with her two walks a day appear to be doing wonders as she has become an active dog. According to the owner, Twinkle is used to being with children of all ages and she is used to being with other dogs. This is what the foster has to say: Twinkle is gentle, kind and loving. She is a big sweet dog, who loves to give kisses and ride in cars, but mostly she wants to be with you. Twinkle would be a terrific dog for a family with small kids. She is mellow and easy. When Twinkle first came to us, she showed some separation anxiety, (mostly barking, no chewing or destructive behavior). Since then, she has settled down more and more each day. She can still be a bit timid in her new environment and enjoys finding a safe and quiet corner, maybe under the table, maybe behind the sofa…to curl up and chill. Twinkle walks wonderfully on and off leash, senses when her leader stops or slows and comes to a halt, and she turns to look back for direction. She is a great dog. Terrific temperment around other dogs. She enjoys the company of our older lab and we think she would do well in a home with an existing pup. She is not interested in fetching a ball or chasing after a stick, although she does like to run free in the nearby woods, always returning to her leader. If you are looking for a great companion, Twinkle is the girl for you. She can hike up to a few miles; probably not best for her to run for an extended period. She loves brisk walks a few times a day, when you head for the door, she is ”ready to go”. The rest of the time she will be perfectly happy just to hang with you. She is so calm, you would never know she used to be an outside dog. Twinkle has had a rough first part of her life. Lab rescue would like to see her go to someone who can love her as much as she loves and can be with her during the day. According to the owner, Twinkle would play with the rabbit on the ranch, which makes us think she would do fine with dog-experienced cats. We did blood work that came back fine. She is up to date on her shots, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is also housebroken, and sleeps in her kennel or on the floor near her foster’s bed. Twinkle is located in Berkeley.
