Swindon Baby: The 1ft 11½ins (597mm) gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway in mid-Wales, inherited by the Great Western Railway in January 1922, was thoroughly modernised by that company, as evidenced here by 1923 Swindon Works-built 2-6-2T locomotive No.8 Llewelyn and GWR signals at the Aberystwyth coastal terminus.
