Sydney Mail Wednesday 15 July 1925 Flight from Cloncurry to the Gulf of Carpentaria AN interesting flight was recently made by Pilot L. J, Brain, of the Cloncurry Aerial Services, He flew from Cloncurry to the Gulf of Carpentaria, being the first man to do so. Though the distance between the two places is only 250 miles, the route covered entirely new country, and the appearance of the flying machine created considerable excitement at every settlement on the way. When the De Haviland aeroplane arrived at Normanton (which is 23 miles from the Gulf) the people gathered very quickly, and the pilot was overwhelmed with congratulations, as no Flying machine had ever been seen there before. Especially were the children interested. Watch the North ! The advice is even more pertinent to-day than when it was first uttered. The flying machine must have an increasingly important place in our defence system, and no doubt, the day will come when in even the most sparsely-populated coastal areas of the north the aeroplane will be such a familiar sight that it will cease to create any more interest than a motor car.
