Sydney is becoming more and more like its south west - multicultural. It is critical that we have an Archbishop who not only understands multicultural ministry, but has a proven track record of leadership in this area and knows what needs to be done. Mission Board Strategy Committee Member and Rector of Fairfield, Peter Lin, says Rick Smith’s actions in planting three Asian and one Japanese congregation indicates that he is the man who can see multicultural ministry blossom not just in the west and south west but right across Sydney. Rooty Hill Rector, Ray Galea, says since Sydney is a multicultural city it is desperate we have an Archbishop who can effectively reach across cultures and has demonstrated that, not just a theoretician. Rector of Strathfield/Enfield, Kevin Kim, who pastors a large Korean congregation, says that as God brought the nations to us in Sydney we have been provided with an unprecedented opportunity to reach the nations. Mr Kim says Rick Smith has the record to show he can do the work, "What gives me hope is that he not only shares the vision for multicultural work ... but what Rick brings to the table is that he has done it himself and is working hard to do it better." Mr Kim says Rick has the runs on the board to make the vision of a multicultural church into a reality. Dominic Steele and Chris Braga Why Rick. editors
