Syed Ali Gilani’s continued house arrest denounced Srinagar, September 28: In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronised by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, denouncing his continued house arrest has said that the oppressive measures cannot break the resolve of Hurriyet leadership. The forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said that Syed Ali Gilani continued to be under house arrest for the past seven months and was not even allowed to offer Friday prayers. “He is virtually in jail. A heavy contingent of police is keeping a vigil on his residence and preventing him from all social, political and religious activities,” he deplored. The spokesman maintained that the Omar Abdullah-led puppet regime was scared of Gilani’s popularly and public support and this was the reason that he was not allowed to move out of his house. He also condemned the arrest of Hurriyet leader including Firdous Ahmad Shah by Indian police when they were on their way to Shopian to express solidarity with the families of recently martyred civilians. He added that it was the worst kind of human rights violation and showed frustration of the occupation authorities.
