Symbols of religion are visual reinforcers designed to represent - TopicsExpress

Symbols of religion are visual reinforcers designed to represent the precepts of faith, by conveying a spirit of unity within that faith. These symbols have power only because we as individuals allow them to do so. Hybridists like me associate the Yin an Yang symbol with mental and spiritual balance. Christians associate the cross with Christs sacrifice and ascension. Jews use the Star of David to represent the triumph of good over evil despite overwhelming odds. All of these are symbols of faith unity. The danger inherent with such symbols lies with the corruption of their meaning and utilization of that distorted message to justify a wide range of unethical behaviors, like rats following the pied piper. Religious symbols are a reminder of faith and when used in this manner they are simply a means of reaffirming faith. However, it is unethical to use religious symbolism to motivate, indoctrinate or seduce as a means of control.
