Sympathies to the friends and family of Kars WI member Coral Lindsay. LINDSAY, Coral Anna (née Scharf) December 6, 1931 – October 2, 2014 Coral Lindsay died peacefully, at the St. Vincents Hospital in Ottawa, on Thursday, October 2, 2014 in her 83rd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Hugh (1994), precious daughter Laurie (1986) and her parents Elijah and Lela Scharf. Lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren: Linda Lee Lindsay (Riv Power) and her daughters Adrienne St. Louis, Olivia St. Louis and Emily St. Louis (Eric Bruneau); Glen Lindsay (Nicole) and their children, Angela, Christine, Jennifer, Jessie and James; and Stephen Lindsay (Angela McCleery) and his sons Blair and Sean. Also survived by her great-grandchildren and her sisters, Glenda (John Shields) and Melanie Hayes (David) and their children. Coral will be greatly missed in the community where she had been active throughout her life including as a teacher-librarian in the Carleton Board of Education, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Kars, the Ottawa Archives (Rideau Branch), the Rideau Township Historical Society and Dickinson House. Coral researched and published numerous histories of Carleton County people and events. She shared her wealth of knowledge of local history in character and costume making her story telling abilities legendary. She was an avid collector and authority on antique dolls and toys. Her accomplishments were recognized as the recipient of Manotick Citizen of the Year Award (2009) the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), the Ontario Heritage Foundation Citation (1997), the Phi Delta Kappa Exemplary Teacher Certificate (1996), the Canada 125 Volunteer Award (1992), the Teachers Federation of Carleton County Silver Pin (1987), the Ontario Bicentennial Medal (1984) and the Lady Tweedsmuir Trophy (1964) for her role as curator of the Kars Tweedsmuir History. Coral was a life member of the Kars Branch of the Womens Institute and St. Andrews Auxiliary of the Womens Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Friends are invited to visit at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars (East of Hwy 416) on Monday, October 6th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6810 Rideau Valley Dr. S., Kars on Tuesday, October 7th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Elmview Cemetery. Those wishing may make donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 219, Kars, ON K0A 2E0, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, 620 Colborne St., Suite 301, London, ON N6B 3R9 or a charity of your choice.
