Syncrude Aquatic Centre closing for annual maintenance (Fort McMurray, AB, July 29, 2013) – The Syncrude Aquatic Centre at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre is closing for annual maintenance from Friday, August 23 through Friday, September 6 inclusive, re-opening on Saturday September 7 at 7:00 am. The annual maintenance shutdown is required to ensure all Syncrude Aquatic Centre amenities and features are running efficiently and safely prior to the launch of the fall program schedule, including Aquatics programs such as Red Cross swim lessons. “We thank community members for their understanding during this brief and necessary shutdown,” said Jodie Mercier, General Manager of Sport and Recreation at MacDonald Island Park. “We have another full and busy year ahead at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre, and this maintenance shutdown ensures the facility is operating at maximum efficiency as we head into the fall season.” The Syncrude Aquatic Centre will be in full operation well before the beginning of fall programs, which include Red Cross swim lessons, Aquafit, First Aid and Lifesaving classes, among other programs. Online registration for MacDonald Island Park fall programs begins Tuesday, August 27 at macdonaldisland.ca/programs. Suncor Community Leisure Centre members will have front of line online access beginning on Monday, August 26, “We are looking forward to another very exciting year at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre,” said Mercier. “We encourage the community to browse our fall programs beginning on August 19 to take advantage of all we have to offer as we get set to re-open the recreational gem of MacDonald Island Park.”
