Syracuse New York Murder Suspect Apprehended on Belmont Street Worcester, MA (September 24, 2014) - On Wednesday September 24, 2014, a member of the Worcester Police Gang Unit obtained information that a male wanted out of Syracuse, New York on a murder warrant was possibly in the city. The officer was told that the male may be hiding from New York authorities in the Hooper Street and Belmont Street area. The suspect was identified as Eddie Carrasquillo, 29-years-old from the Syracuse area. Mr. Carrasquillo is a known gang member in that area. The officer confirmed that the warrant was active with charges for Murder in the Second Degree, Second Degree Weapon Offenses and Assault in the Second Degree. The warrant was issued on August 27, 2014 as a result of a shooting incident that occurred on August 3, 2014 in the city of Syracuse. On that day two brothers were shot multiple times while sitting on their front porch. One victim, a 34-year-old male, died while his 33-year-old brother was critically wounded. Members of the Gang Unit conducted an extensive search of the area and subsequently discovered that Mr. Carrasquillo may be staying at a Belmont Street apartment. Gang officers assembled a surveillance team that involved the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, Worcester County Sheriff’s Investigative Services, The WPD Fugitive Apprehension Team, WPD Operation officers (EOP) and members of WPD SWAT. Members of the surveillance team set up in the area of this Belmont Street apartment. At approximately 3:30 PM officers made visual contact with Mr. Carrasquillo. Due to the violent nature of the warrant, the officers maintained surveillance and waited for an appropriate opportunity to apprehend him. At approximately 5:50 PM, officers observed Mr. Carrasquillo enter the rear seat of a livery vehicle alone. The operator of the vehicle began to drive west on Belmont Street. Several undercover vehicles followed the vehicle until they conducted a felony motor vehicle stop in the area of 40 Belmont Street. Mr. Carrasquillo was overwhelmed with a substantial police presence and surrendered without resistance. He was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for processing. Mr. Carrasquillo will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse as a Fugitive from Justice. Syracuse Police were notified and will following up with rendition proceedings. There were no injuries reported.
