Syria? 100k and counting fatalities, Libya unconfirmed but - TopicsExpress

Syria? 100k and counting fatalities, Libya unconfirmed but estimated 25k fatalities. UN and Western countries have sat back and watched the death toll rise. Why was action not taken earlier? We have added to the crisis, dare i say endorsed it through inaction. Now we are in a high stakes game of poker with Syria, Russia, Iran and to an extent China, all calling our bluff. Government, Cameron/Clegg licking their lips at a window of opportunity and a potential boost in popularity but all parties vote puts a spanner in the works. Why is no one asking why we did not act earlier to stop the innocent deaths? Libya oil sector 80% GDP & 97% exports, Syria oil sector provides about 40% of export earnings. Oil reserves are expected to decrease in the coming years and Syria has already become a net oil importer! Is this the real reason/motivation between action and no action? Rhetoric coming out of Washington & Downing Street would suggest some kind of military intervention. Is this our generations Cold War/Cuban missile crisis?? I hope not.
