T/S (take sides) Michael Jackson (solo) vs Miley Cyrus singer - TopicsExpress

T/S (take sides) Michael Jackson (solo) vs Miley Cyrus singer #1: i got to be honest, i never enjoyed one single MJ solo era tune. nothing, nada, zip. the whole Quincy Jones sound creeps me out, just like most 80s american dance/pop that isnt freestyle or Hi-NRG or euro-style. rating: zero, f a i l. the recordings that is. singer #2: ok lets take a head count. there are four or five pretty darn good to near-great songs amongst the five billion songs back in the mid-late 00s albums: Rock Star (the arena set opener), the TV/concert theme song Best of Both Worlds (a richard marx co-write!), I Got Nerve, If You Were a Movie, and then a notch less so for Who Said, Start All Over, and G.N.O. and then the miley/dr luke deservedly giant hit Party In the USA, which is still her set closer for arena shows. i really really DIDNT like her first crossover (to real Top 40) hit See You Again. her recent hits have made no impression at all on my ears (when heard across the room on 4am MTV), except for the neutral reaction uh, that doesnt suck, whatever its called. i havent heard the album. final score: like an ugly Ivy League football game back in the 50s, this is like what? 6 to 0. miley. for CONCERT MOVIES however, that 2008 BEST OF BOTH WORLDS / Meet Miley Cyrus one is an absolute barn burner. yes, probably the best live concert documentary ive seen in my whole life. (it got B+ ratings across the board in all the important media movie reviews -- see EW link below -- so i saw it the weekend it came out, as per a movie not a miley thing. i see about twenty multiplex movies a year, no biggie). i then took an ex-GFs kids to see it a month later, and wow it was just as good the second time around. and a half decade later now? via a $2 thrift store DVD i found the other day? even BETTER, as in blew my mind how good a giant-stage performer she was out of the box. twenty seconds into the show, she OWNS the St. Louis hockey tank. as a documentary/actual film, is it elegantly and cleverly put together/edited, and just B+ watchable as a entertainment-world documentary, just like the major reviews said. (in the Rasputins giant DVD/movies section, it holds its value used at a full $7.95, i have noticed) way back in those Myspace years, i posted a blog/journal after seeing the movie, and several parental types checked in with the same assessment: holy crap, it was GOOD. so while the Jackson 5 had some epic, EPIC hit singles (The Love You Save might be one of the greatest dance-floor hard-pop hit singles ever), as a solo performer? again, miley. dolly partons recent vote of confidence, for whatever it means or is cryptic-meaning referring to or talking about: If I didnt know how smart and talented Miley is, I might worry about her, Parton wrote in her TIME Magazine 100 Most Influential People essay on Cyruss page. But Ive watched her grow up. So I dont. She knows what shes doing. She was very proud of the work she did as Hannah Montana, but people were gonna leave her there forever, Parton wrote about Cyrus. And she was just smotherin and chokin in it. So she felt she had to do something completely drastic. And she did. She made her point, she made her mark, and more power to her. Wrecking Ball is a great song. The whole album is great, Parton wrote. So Im hoping that now she can relax and show people how talented she really is. Cause the girl can write. The girl can sing. The girl is smart.
